began weeks ago, and Ley was dogged by rumours of a potential challenge by Taylor or fellow conservative MP Andrew Hastie for all of her nine months in the job.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Speculation has been particularly rife since this year – Taylor and Hastie met privately in late January while in Melbourne for the funeral of former Liberal MP Katie Allen.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Two days after that meeting, Hastie ruled himself out of any potential leadership content, saying he didn't believe he had the support to become leader.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>On Sunday night, the latest Newspoll revealed the Liberals' primary vote had dropped to just 18 per cent, behind One Nation, and by Wednesday Taylor
