<div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><a href="http://www.9news.com.au/queensland" rel="" target="" title="Queensland"><span>Queensland</span></a><span> Premier </span><a href="http://www.9news.com.au/david-crisafulli" rel="" target="" title="David Crisafulli"><span>David Crisafulli</span></a><span> has faced his first test on victims of </span><a href="http://www.9news.com.au/crime" rel="" target="" title="crime"><span>crime</span></a><span> numbers, after betting his career on them dropping.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Prior to his election, Crisafulli vowed to resign if there were not fewer victims of crime by the end of his term.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Queensland Police data shows victim numbers have declined almost six per cent in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.</span></div></div><div><div id="adspot-mobile-medium"></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><strong><span>READ MORE:</span></strong><span> </span><a href="https://www.9news.com.au/world/police-hunt-gunman-who-shot-police-officer-civilians-manhattan-us/c545d211-0267-4535-a2fb-5372d477de94" target="_blank"><strong><span>Four dead, including police officer, in Manhattan shooting</span></strong></a></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Figures show the rate of victims per 100,000 people has dropped 6.4 per cent for unlawful use of a motor vehicle, 12 per cent for unlawful entry and 13.2 per cent for robbery.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>But an entire category of "other thefts" isn't being included in the Premier's calculations, including stealing from homes or properties, shop stealing, and entering or stealing from a vehicle.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Crisafulli maintains if "other thefts" were included, the rate would have dropped further.</span></div></div><div><div class="OUTBRAIN" data-reactroot="" data-src="//www.9news.com.au/national/queensland-premier-david-crisafulli-victim-numbers-youth-crime-politics-news/e932c22f-63cd-4387-abdd-4a262b335ec1" data-widget-id="AR_5"></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>But he said he's not celebrating yet.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"If you're asking whether or not we're popping champagne corks, we're a long way off that, we haven't even put it on ice," he said today.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"We have a long, long way to go and ultimately, it's about creating fewer victims.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"You're always going to have crime but it's about making sure you reduce the severity of it and the number of Queenslanders impacted by it."</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>The QPS data is not as independent as what is produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>But ABS reports can take months to be released.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"They can see this, month by month," Crisafulli said.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"That's accountability.
