In all of these electorates, a couple on a pension would not be able to afford to rent any properties.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Two Queensland electorates were included in the top 10 - Fadden, on the Gold Coast, and Cook, in far north Queensland.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>In Fadden, a couple on the aged pension would be able to afford just 0.2 percent of rental properties, while a couple on minimum wage with two children would only be able to afford to rent 4.7 percent.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Anglicare Australia executive director Kasy Chambers said more social housing was desperately needed.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"Australia's housing crisis has never been worse. No part of the country has been spared. These maps show that rents are shooting up in towns and regions, and that our cities have never been more expensive," she said.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>Voters going into the federal election were crying out for action from Australia's leaders, Chambers said, adding around 640,000 new social homes across Australia were needed.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"We keep hearing that this election is about living costs, but housing is the biggest cost facing Australians. People on low incomes don't stand a chance," she said.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>"We're calling on the next parliament to raise JobSeeker and other payments above the poverty line. If we don't, people out of work will be pushed deeper into housing stress and even homelessness.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>The Anglicare Australia snapshot echoes findings from a Money.com.au survey, which found housing affordability and rental stress have emerged as key concerns for younger Australians under 40, overtaking traditional election issues such as jobs, superannuation, and energy policy.</span></div></div><div class="block-content"><div class="styles__Container-sc-1ylecsg-0 goULFa"><span>About 17 per cent of Gen Z and Millennials responding to the survey said access to home ownership was their top issue after the cost of living, while a further 11 per cent of Gen Z and 8 per cent of Millennials cited rental affordability as their next biggest concern.</span></div></div>
